“Emily burst onto the gallery scene in 2021. Through her unique palette, sense of colour and bold mark-making, these expressive paintings offer us a glimpse into her immersive and fully-realised imaginative world – the mark of a true visionary.
“This exhibition presents a new direction in her painting; a pale foreground thronged with foliage in which tigers and parrots mischievously hide, representing some of her most technically composed pieces to date. In another whimsical group, chairs fly round a breakfast table as a cat looks in, a reindeer sports a jumper while eyeing up some magic oats, and a leopard grins toothily while offering up his tummy to be tickled. Elsewhere, wide gestural marks create rampant flora and fauna on a large scale, and her palette displays a maternal tonality reflecting the imminent birth of her first child. Her work brings a unique joy to the soul both through the harmony of colour it presents, and the pathos and gentle humour of the animal characters who inhabit her world.
“The celebration of joyful creatures and vivid colour combination reflects the achievements and accolades of an astoundingly successful year. In particular this new exhibition reflects the artist’s technical development, as well her growing confidence in the daring naivety of her work. As an early-career woman artist this level of confidence and risk-taking positions her as an inspiring figure to artists and collectors alike. Her paintings, should you wish to take one home, act as talismans to delight the owner with this joy and confidence. As ‘The Anti-Grey Sky’ painting suggests, this is an exhibition to roust the dark nights of winter, and light up ones home.”

Livingstone St. Ives is the first major gallery to put their credence behind this unique young artist and bring her captivating works to a wider audience. As the last collection of work before her forthcoming maternity leave and the launch of her book, which will catapult Emily Powell to the status of household name, this is an exciting opportunity to invest in a piece of original art whose value will surely follow the rise of this young and inspiring star.
