“My history lies in the intimate knowledge I have of each of these coves, beaches and moorlands, and I absolutely love each of them.” – Iona Sanders
The series of works that Iona has painted for the exhibition ‘Intimate Landscape’ comes at the end of a 47 year (and 11 month) period where these particular places have served as a constant in her life.
Although impressionistic in style, Iona has an intimate connection and knowledge of each place, be it growing up in the cove at Cape Cornwall where her cousin is one of the only remaining crab fishermen; Prussia where she claims to know every rock; Cot Valley where her mother was born, or Lelant beach where she currently lives, walks, and swims.
Iona says, “one of the best things that has come out of the last year is the amount of times that I have revisited each of these locations. I have sketched them numerous times throughout all the seasons, and I feel that the time I have had to do this has been a real privilege.”
Her primary focus is on line and colour and there is an energy that exudes from the work that is reflective of her connection.
All work is available to purchase through the gallery. Please contact us via email at [email protected] for more information.
