This radiant painting captures the perfection of a bright, sunny day, with no clouds in the heavenly blue sky, and the waves gently breaking on the pristine sand. This is a deceptively complex painting – appearing at first to be a simple depiction of land, sea and sky, it utilises a variety of techniques, including an almost-abstracted use of washes of oil paint on the foreground to create the shimmering reflections of wet sand, and the strongly textured impasto work on the wavelets, which turn the sea into a dazzling, foam-flecked, almost tropical, paradise.
