This ambiguous cloudscape echoes Jack’s previous depictions of the colours of winter bracken, with its strong earth tones anchoring the airy and celestial forms above it. This could be a misty landscape, with the solid forms of the Cornish moorland obscured by the rolling sea mist, or it could also be a cloudscape, with the thunderous dark of a stormcloud’s base diffusing into delicate ivory. As Jack said: “I want the viewer to find ambiguity in the work, not just a figurative representation. Every time you look at it you can discover something new.”
