This sumptuous sunset painting captures the final instant of light as the day slips into night, the liminal moment as the sun sinks below the horizon and the the last of its radiance reflects up onto the clouds above. This painting could almost be a nocturne, a nightscape in blues and silvers, except for this warm flash of flame-red light.
Jack says: “I never work from photographs: the work is done from direct observation and memory,” and the viewer can almost feel as though they stand at the artist’s side in this single moment of light, marvelling at the transient glory of the sunset.
