The flora and fauna of the Cornish headland are as vibrant and varied as any jungle, rendered with Emily’s signature neon pinks, bright blues and acid yellows in this abstracted figurative painting. A vivid profusion of life bursts from the canvas, a combination of confident impasto brushstrokes and the clean lines of cut paper, to suggest flowers, stems and the busyness of insects in a complex layering of forms. The wild themes are further enhanced by the suggestion of zebra patterns in what could be a stylised sliver birch trunk, and tigerish marks to the right of the foreground. Joyful, expressive and bountiful, the painting buzzes with the warmth and life of a summer afternoon.
