Livingstone St. Ives are pleased to present Spencer Shakespeare’s solo exhibition, his first with the gallery and in the UK.
Our St. Ives gallery is showing Spencer’s latest collection of work, created during his residency in summer 2021 in the prestigious Porthmeor Studios.
These paintings explore Spencer’s relationship with nature and the elements, personified as friends. Motifs such as wise trees, mythological bodies of water and luck-bringing buzzards recur in the work, and a sense of magic is strong. Pinks and greens prevail, and Spencer’s residency in Studio 5 allowed him to take the time to explore these colours and themes against the backdrop of St. Ives’ 20th century artists.
